The Food & Drink Forum, in partnership with The Mallows Company, has secured ERDF funding to offer a range of useful services to food and drink manufacturers until September 2021, including; grant funding, business mentoring, industry events and technical support.
Grant funding is available to eligible businesses* looking to purchase production equipment to help increase their growth, productivity and create jobs. Through the FEAST2 project we can offer businesses up to 25% of grant funding to support these purchases subject to the following conditions;
Businesses will be required to complete and submit a grant application form together with three quotes for each piece of equipment. The business and the application would then be assessed for eligibility and where successful, a business could receive up to 25% of grant funding against terms and conditions applied. Businesses should not make any purchases prior to submitting a Grant Application Form and receipt of a grant offer letter. Funding will not be given retrospectively. Eligible businesses* could receive up to twelve hours of food technical support at no cost from the Food & Drink Forum’s technical team. These industry experts could assist with a wide range of technical issues such as;
- Product labelling (are you labels meeting the Food Information Regulations?)
- Recipe nutritional analysis
- HACCP implementation and support
- Product lab testing advice and support
- Support implementing / maintaining SALSA certification
- Support implementing / maintaining BRC certification
- Shelf life and product stability advice
- Internal audit support
- Factory layout advice (improving production efficiency)
- Food safety and hygiene
Eligible businesses will have access to industry experts, fully subsidised, to receive mentoring in any aspect of business. FEAST2 mentors have a wealth of experience in running food and drink manufacturing businesses and are keen to share their knowledge with you.
The Food & Drink Forum, along with industry partners will run a number of industry-specific events throughout the course of the project. Bringing like-minded businesses together to share knowledge, best practice and experience.

Giovanni’s Gelato – Grant Support and Workshop Attendance
Giovanni’s Gelato is an award-winning Italian dessert company established in 2013 producing artisan gelato, sorbetto and yoghurts to the retail and wholesale industry in the UK.
Founded by Carmelo Gristina, Giovanni’s supplies to many dessert parlours, restaurants and eateries across the UK, most recently launching their new Italian Pasticceria, offering clients authentic handmade Sicilian / Italian pastries and cakes.
Giovanni’s received a £1,400 grant which helped them to purchase additional fridges and freezes, as well as attending a number of food technical workshops through the FEAST2 project.
Carmelo says “without the FEAST2 grant during the Coronavirus crisis, I would not have been able to grow my business as quickly as I have. We are prepared for the future and ready to facilitate more orders and launch our new line. I received all the support I needed and would highly recommend FEAST2 to anyone who is looking to expand or try out new products. I have improved in all aspects of my business.”
Homemade Bread Company – Business mentoring Support
Created by inspiring mum, Renata while on maternity leave, The Homemade Bread Company specialises in making and selling, additive and preservative-free, sourdough bread. They support the Real Bread Campaign in its fight for locally made bread, with all-natural ingredients and no artificial ingredients.
Renata received business mentoring from The Mallows Company, which in her words, turned out to be lifesaving during the Coronavirus crisis.
Renata says “It has been very comforting to know that there is someone out there to talk to in case there are any issues, I have really valued being able to reach at to Rachel. The Mallows Company contacting me last year is the best thing that has happened to me in the time that I have been running my business in Northamptonshire. Ever person working for this business that I came into contact with has been helpful and friendly. I’m really looking forward to getting back to the networking events, I couldn’t recommend this support highly enough.
Loxley’s Larder – Food Technical Support and Event Attendance
Producer of Charcuterie such as salami, air-dried ham and air-dried beef, Loxley’s Larder use outdoor-reared, quality animals produced by small local farms. The business aims to produce top quality products in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Martin from Loxley’s Larder contacted FEAST2 for technical support; he had already completed many hours of product and business research and was well advanced in the process of meeting food safety requirements.
The FEAST2 team were able to confirm key processing parameters and recognised scientifically proven guidance and provide labelling support for Loxley’s Larder.
Martin says “I received vital technical support from FEAST2 which was important support for me navigating the difficulty of getting approval by Environmental Health / the Food Standards Agency. If you are thinking of speaking to FEAST2, definitely do so sooner rather than later.”
*FEAST2 Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to receive support through the FEAST2 project you must meet the small business eligiblity criteria as follows:
- You must have a food or drink manufacturing business based in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire or the South East Midlands
- You must employ less than 250 employees
- You must have an annual turnover of less than €50million, and an annual balance sheet of less than €43million
- You must be predominantly operating Business-to-Business (B2B)
